Linguistic Variations In Urdu Language:

 An Analysis of “Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah” Poem

A poem by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah has been selected for the analysis. And I have tried to find out Lexical variations in Urdu Language.  

Urdu is a standardized register of the Hindustani language. Urdu is historically associated with the Muslims of the region of Hindustan. It is the national language and lingua franca of Pakistan, and an official language of six Indian states and one of the 22 scheduled languages in the Constitution of India. Apart from specialized vocabulary, Urdu is mutually intelligible with Standard Hindi, which is associated with the Hindu community. The Urdu language received recognition and patronage under the British Raj when the British replaced the Persian and local official languages of North Indian states with the Urdu and English language in 1837. Language is always changing. Changings also occurs in Urdu language. The difference can be found in the present form of urdu language and the urdu language of 15^th and 16^th century.

Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah (1580–1612 CE) was the fifth sultan of the Qutb Shahi dynasty of Golkonda and founded the city ofHyderabad, in South-central India and built its architectural centerpiece, theCharminar. He was an able administrator and his reign is considered one of the high points of the Qutb Shahi dynasty.He ascended to the throne in 1580 at the age of 15 and ruled for 31 years.

Sultan Muhammed Quli Qutb Shah was a scholar of Arabic and Persian. He wrote poetry in Urdu and Persian. His poetry has been compiled into a dewan or volume entitled "Kulliyat-e-Quli Qutub Shah." Muhammed Quli Qutub Shah had the distinction of being the first Saheb-e-dewan Urdu poet and is credited with introducing a new sensibility into prevailing genres of Persian/Urdu poetry. It is said that the Urdu language acquired the status of a literary language due to his contributions.

Poem:

مے پیک موسنگات سونا شاد کرتا ہے

او ترک مست دیکھو کہ بیداد کرتا یے

راکھیا وہاں امید کہ جانیا ہوں ے ازماں

لیتا ہے بات جام مجے یاد کرتا ہے

عاشق تو جیو نتے پگ تل اس کے دو اور ہیں

گلگشت سو بتانِ پر یزاد کرتا ہے

شوخی کے سر منے ہوس ترک لے ومد

کب کان میں نصیحت اْستاد کرتا ہے

داغی موجیو سوختہ کیوں تازہ بھی ہوا

او بزم جگ ترانہ کا بنیاد کرتا ہے

آگ فراق زور کری بجلی نمن

آچھوں وہ داغ کہنہ سو آباد کرتا ہے

سب دھر نکہہ توں قطب عاشق ہوں میں ککر

اے حال تیرا طور سوفریاد کرتا یے
